NYS Legislature Approves Budget Cuts to SRO Housing Programs |

The NYS legislature passed a Deficit Reduction Package (DRP) recently. In the DRP, HAC’s NYS SRO funding will be cut by 12.5%. In addition, the Governor’s budget he has just proposed has a funding cut of 13% for the next year. This would be a $9,400 cut to HAC’s budget on an annual basis. In addition, it is possible that our two NYS member items ($20,000 and $7,500) will be cut or eliminated. All of these cuts would make it extremely difficult for us to continue operating, since HUD just decreased our tenant rents recently by $42,000 (see Current Newsletter for more details on the HUD cuts). |

Please write a letter to your NYS Assemblymember and NYS Senator. See attached Sample SRO Letter. Be sure to fill in all blanks on the letter- your Assemblymember and Senator’s name and Room #, sign it and print your name. Also, be sure to send cc’s to all of the cc’s listed on the bottom of your letter. |
