NYS Budget Passes Restoring Housing Funding

The NYS legislature passed its budget on April 3rd, which restored all funding for supportive housing! HAC had been requesting letters from supporters to individual Assemblymembers and Senators, in addition to the Governor and legislative leaders! Almost 150 letters were sent to a variety of legislators and leaders.

HAC was ecstatic to learn that all funds have been restored to the SRO Support Services program. We are relieved that our program won’t be forced to close, which would have sent many chronically homeless individuals back out on the streets. The earlier budget proposal would have forced us to close or make severe budget cuts that could have decimated our program.

We are extremely happy with this news! Thank you to the Supportive Housing Network of NYS for their tremendous advocacy on this issue. We would also like to thank everyone who called and wrote letters to their legislators! Without your support, we are not sure the funding would have been restored.
